Landscape Memories Revisited
Las Cinegas Projects, Los Angeles
November 14-December 12, 2009
Landscape Memories Revisited was a 2009 group exhibition at Las Cienegas Projects in Los Angeles. It was a sequel to the Landscape Memories 1999 exhibition at Rosamund Feslsen Gallery in Santa Monica. I contributed to both. Included here, from the 2009 show, 4 photographic works from the series “Tumbleweed Studies,” images of tumbleweeds moving along a west Texas highway with their GPS coordinates written across the top; also, a three-dimensional work, “John Wayne (model for a non-site),” a foamcore construction with balled-up newspaper pages from the “Hi-Desert Star” (Yucca Valley, CA). The work is a nod to Robert Smithson’s non-site sculptures of metallic boxes filled with earthen materials collected from specific locations
